Summer Food for Detoxification


I thought I share some of recepie to add into your detox or weight loss programme.  Many of you may not heard or try vegetables called Winter Melon.  Winter Melon best have it as soup, tea or deserts.  It is delicious!


WINTER MELON another name is Wax Gourd

It is fast growing vegetables in summer each fruit weight up to 50 pounds, the reason it s called winter melon is because it can be stored without refrigerator as long in the cool place for a few months.

Winter Melon helps to counter act summer heat and humidity, and it is good for those with slow or weak digestion, metabolic function, and weak kidney function.

Taste sweet, neutral and little cool,  good for detoxification, clear the mucus and phlegm and helps for digestion. Recommended for those with kidney problem, diabetes, high blood pressure, over weight and coronary heart disease. If you have loose stool don't have to much of winter melon.

You can use Winter Melon for tea or soup, very soothing in very hottest summer day

Winter Melon is best to cook with chicken or pork bones (has a lot of good nutrition), for those who are vegan can be cook just by itself or as tea as well for sweet.

You can find the Winter Melon in chinese grocery store or some market.

Here is a simple recepie

  • 3 - 4 slices of ginger (I like to have quite strong ginger taste, so I used about 6 slices)
  • 2 to 3 cloves of garlic
  • Pork or Chicken or pork bones
  • A handful dried Shitake mushroom
  • Himalayan salt to suit your taste and pepper.


  1. Soak dried mushroom for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse
  2. Boil water into medium size pot
  3. Cut the Winter Melon into small cubes
  4. Chop the bones or cut the meat into peaces
  5. Slice ginger and garlic
  6. When the water is boiling put all the ingredients in accept the mushroom
  7. Continue boiling the ingredients for 30 minutes and then put the mushroom into the pot, keep boiling till the meat is tender.
  8. Last put the Winter Melon into the pot, continue boiling till soft.
  9. Add salt and pepper
  10. Ready to Serve

I like to have it with steam rice.  Easy and convenience for breakfast, lunch or dinner.




Simple easy, have it anytime at night or during the day, Hot or Cold

  1. Boil water and then put the melon and ginger into boiling water after cut them into small peaces
  2. Boil them till tender and put coconut sugar or cane sugar
  3. Serve hot or cold
